Getting started
What is Income Split Planner (IncomeWise)?
Income Split Planner, also called IncomeWise, is a personal finance app for tracking income, expenses, investments, bills, loans, subscriptions and savings goals in one dashboard. You can add an expense by voice or attach a receipt photo, it forecasts where the month is heading from your previous months, and an optional AI advisor powered by Anthropic Claude reviews your real numbers. It needs no bank login, and the core app is free.
Is Income Split Planner free?
Yes. Transactions, budgets, wallets, the dashboard, voice entry, receipt photos and multi-currency support are free with no time limit. Premium costs $3 a month and adds the AI Advisor, savings goals, the bill and loan trackers, advanced analytics, Excel export and the business workspace.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. The app is fully responsive and can be installed from the browser as an app on Android and iOS (a Progressive Web App), with its own icon and full-screen window. Your data is the same on every device you sign in on.
What currencies are supported?
Eleven: USD, EUR, GBP, SAR (Saudi Riyal), AED (UAE Dirham), PKR (Pakistani Rupee), INR (Indian Rupee), CAD, AUD, JPY and CHF. Each finance profile has its own currency, so you can keep, for example, a SAR household budget and a USD freelance budget side by side.
Can I keep separate budgets, for example personal and household?
Yes. One account can hold several finance profiles, each with its own transactions, currency and income split, and you switch between them from the menu. Accounts are single-user, so couples who want one shared budget typically share a profile on one login.
Can I look back at a previous month?
Yes. The wallet, analytics and business dashboard each have a month switcher, so any past month shows its own totals, category breakdown and transactions rather than only the current month.
Fast entry
How does adding an expense by voice work?
Tap the microphone and say something like "spent 40 on groceries" or "paid 1200 rent yesterday". The app works out the type, amount, date and category, then opens the entry form already filled in so you can check it before saving. Nothing is written to your ledger from speech alone. English is supported today.
Which budgeting app lets you add expenses by voice?
Income Split Planner supports English voice entry on the free and Premium plans: say the expense and the form fills itself in. Most popular budgeting apps (YNAB, Monarch, Copilot, PocketGuard) rely on bank-feed imports or typing instead. Voice matters because people usually abandon budgeting apps over the effort of logging, not the quality of the charts.
Does voice entry work without a microphone?
Yes. The same command box accepts the same sentence typed, so it works in browsers without speech recognition (such as Firefox and some in-app browsers) and when microphone access is blocked. Speech recognition itself works in Chrome, Edge and Safari, including on Android and iOS.
Can I attach a photo of my receipt?
Yes. When adding or editing any transaction you can photograph the receipt or pick an image from your library. It is resized and compressed on your own device before upload, stored with that transaction, and opens in one tap from the wallet. Deleting the transaction deletes the receipt with it.
What is the fastest way to log an expense?
Say it. "Spent 40 on groceries" fills in the type, amount, category and date in one step, roughly three seconds instead of the half a minute it takes to open a form and fill six fields. Typing the same sentence into the command box works just as well.
Does the app learn which category I prefer?
Yes. Category suggestions learn from the transactions you have saved. If you file "Dinner" under Food, it suggests Food the next time you type Dinner. If you keep changing the default "Dining Out" to "Food", it starts suggesting Food for similar entries you have never typed before, such as "Breakfast". Learned picks are labelled "learned" in the form, and you can always change them.
Budgeting & forecasting
How do I split my income into needs, lifestyle, savings and investments?
Set your split in Settings under Smart Income Allocation. The default is 50% needs, 20% lifestyle, 20% savings and 10% investments, and every percentage is editable as long as the four add up to 100%. The savings share is what the Fund Goal suggestions and the goals advisor plan around.
Does Income Split Planner support the 50/30/20 rule?
Yes. Set Smart Income Allocation to 50% needs, 30% lifestyle and 20% across savings and investments, and the app plans around that split. Category budgets let you put a monthly limit on any individual category as well.
How does the month-end forecast work?
Analytics shows where the current month is heading, compared with up to your last three months. It separates fixed commitments such as rent and bills from day-to-day spending, so a big payment early in the month does not inflate the estimate. It also counts bills and income that usually arrive later in the month and have not arrived yet, and shows the expected spend and savings against your three-month average.
How do I stop overspending each month?
Give your problem categories a monthly budget, and each one shows how much is spent and how much is left. Then check the month-end forecast, which warns when your day-to-day spending is running ahead of the calendar while there is still time to change course. Logging spending as it happens, by voice if that is quicker, is what makes both of these accurate.
Why does the dashboard compare with "the same days last month"?
Because the current month is not over yet. Comparing five days of spending with all of last month would show a huge drop every month until the very end. The change badges compare this month so far with last month up to the same day, which is the like-for-like comparison.
Does it work with freelance or irregular income?
Yes. Log each payment when it arrives. The dashboard and forecast work from what has actually come in, and the forecast learns which income sources recur and treats one-off payments such as a bonus as one-offs rather than expecting them again.
Goals, bills & loans
How much should I put into each savings goal?
When you fund a goal, the app suggests that goal's share of your savings plan (the savings percentage of this month's income), weighted by how much each goal needs per month to hit its deadline. The suggestion is never more than what is left unallocated this month, and it accounts for anything you have already put into that goal this month.
How do I know if a savings goal is on track?
The Smart Advisor on the Goals page compares what each goal needs per month to meet its deadline with what you typically have left after spending, based on your last completed months. It flags goals that are behind pace, estimates when each will be fully funded, and suggests how to split the month's savings across goals.
Can I track bills and loans in the same app?
Yes. Premium includes a bill tracker with weekly, monthly or yearly schedules and overdue alerts, and a loan tracker for money you borrowed and money you lent. Each loan shows payments made, the remaining balance, the monthly instalment and the next due date.
Can it find and track my subscriptions?
Yes. The subscription tracker shows each subscription's true monthly and yearly cost and upcoming renewals. It also detects recurring "Subscriptions" spending in your transactions that you have not started tracking yet, so forgotten renewals surface.
AI & reports
How does the AI Advisor work?
Your real figures are sent to Anthropic's Claude with a tightly scoped prompt, and it returns specific, numbered advice plus one priority action. It only runs once you have at least 30 days of history and five transactions, so the advice is based on your actual patterns rather than a generic template.
What is the best AI budgeting app for personal finance?
It depends on whether you want bank syncing. If you would rather not connect your bank, Income Split Planner is one of the most affordable options: $3 a month for a Claude-powered advisor that analyses your real income, spending, bills and goals, with voice entry and receipt photos included.
What reports does it generate?
Analytics includes the month-end forecast, monthly income and spending trends, a category breakdown (including investments) for any month, the savings rate and a 0 to 100 financial health score. The score is built from your savings rate, budget adherence, spending as a share of income, and whether you are investing.
Can I export my data to Excel?
Yes. Premium exports a formatted Excel workbook with dashboard, transactions, budgets, goals, bills, loans and monthly trend sheets. The business workspace has its own profit and loss export.
Can I manage business finances too?
Yes. Premium includes a separate business workspace for revenue, expenses, invoices, clients, staff and payroll, with multiple companies and an AI CFO. It is kept completely separate from your personal finances and needs no second subscription.
Privacy & security
Do I need to connect my bank account?
No. You enter transactions yourself, by voice, by typing or with a receipt photo. There is no bank login, no Plaid connection and no read access to your real accounts.
Is my data secure?
Passwords are hashed with bcrypt, sessions use HTTP-only signed cookies, and data is stored in Postgres, encrypted at rest. The site is served only over HTTPS with HSTS, a strict Content Security Policy and rate limiting on sign-in and every write.
Do you sell my data?
No. There are no advertising partners and no third-party trackers, not even Google Analytics. The only revenue is Premium subscriptions.
Can I remove my data?
Yes. Settings lets you clear the financial data in a profile at any time. Premium users can export everything to Excel first.
Pricing & plans
What payment methods are accepted?
Premium is billed through Lemon Squeezy, which accepts major credit and debit cards, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay, depending on your country.
Can I cancel Premium at any time?
Yes. Cancel from Settings and you keep Premium until the end of the period you have paid for, with no further charges. Your data stays as it is if you resubscribe later.
Comparisons
How is this different from Mint, YNAB or a spreadsheet?
Mint was shut down by Intuit in 2024. YNAB costs $14.99 a month and is built around envelope budgeting with bank syncing. A spreadsheet has no voice entry, receipts, forecasting or AI. Income Split Planner costs $3 a month, needs no bank login, and adds voice entry, receipt photos, a month-end forecast and a Claude-powered advisor.
What is the best Mint alternative in 2026?
After Mint shut down in March 2024, the usual replacements are Monarch Money, Rocket Money, Empower and Income Split Planner. Income Split Planner suits people who would rather not link a bank: it is free to start, $3 a month for Premium, and logs expenses by voice or receipt photo instead of a bank feed.
Is there a free alternative to YNAB?
Yes. Income Split Planner's core (transactions, budgets, dashboard and multi-currency) is free with no time limit, and Premium is $3 a month. That compares with $14.99 a month for YNAB or Monarch, around $13 for Copilot and $12.99 for PocketGuard.
Still deciding?
It is free to start, with no card and no bank login. Log your first expense by voice in about three seconds.
