How to use it
- Enter your monthly income after tax and pick your currency.
- Choose a preset, or set your own percentages for needs, lifestyle, savings and investments (they must add up to 100%).
- Read off each share per month and per year.
How the split is calculated
Each share is your monthly income multiplied by its percentage: share = income × percentage ÷ 100. The yearly figure is the monthly share × 12.
Needs are essentials (rent, groceries, utilities, transport, loan repayments). Lifestyle is everything you choose to spend on. Savings is money kept for goals and emergencies. Investments is money put to work for the long term.
Example
On a take-home income of 4,000 a month with the balanced 50/20/20/10 split: needs 2,000, lifestyle 800, savings 800 and investments 400 — or 9,600 saved and 4,800 invested over a year.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best way to split my income?
A common starting point is 50/30/20: half for needs, 30% for wants and 20% for savings. If you also invest, a balanced 50/20/20/10 split keeps the same needs share and moves 10% from wants to investments. The best split is one you can actually keep — start from your real spending and move toward the target a few percent at a time.
Should I split my gross or net income?
Net (take-home) income — the money that actually reaches your account after tax and deductions.
What if my needs are more than 50% of my income?
That is common with high rent or debt. Use your real needs percentage for now, keep at least a small savings share, and lower needs over time by renegotiating bills or moving costs.
